Weight Loss Diet Fad’s

Obesity is a physical state that refers to excessive body fat. Chances are you have experienced the frustrations of dieting at least once in your life, if you have problems with your weight. Close to a hundred million Americans go on a weight loss diet in any given year and up to ninety-five percent of them regain the weight they lose within five years. Worse, a third will gain back more weight than they lost, in danger of “yo-yoing” from one popular diet to another. The conventional approach to weight problems, focusing on fad weight loss diets or weight loss drugs, may leave you with just as much weight and the additional burden of ill health.

Today, an estimated sixty-five percent of all American adults are obese or overweight. Our culture obsesses about staying thin even as we grow fatter, but this isn’t about appearances. Obesity is known to be a precursor to many debilitating health conditions such as cancer, heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, osteoarthritis, and gallbladder disease. Obesity contributes to as many as 375,000 deaths every year. In addition, the public health costs for obesity are staggering. According to researchers at Harvard University, obesity is a factor in 19% of all cases of heart disease with annual health costs estimated at 30 billion dollars; it’s also a factor in 57% of diabetes cases, with health costs of billion per year.

Set Realistic Goals:

No doubt you have fallen for one or more of the weight loss diet schemes over the years, promising quick and painless weight loss. Many of these quick weight loss diet programs undermine your health, cause physical discomfort, flatulence, and ultimately lead to disappointment when you start regaining weight, shortly after losing it. Fad or quick weight loss diet programs generally overstress one type of food. They contravene the fundamental principle of good nutrition – to remain healthy one must consume a balanced diet, which includes a variety of foods. Safe, healthy, and permanent weight reduction is what’s truly lost among the thousands of popular diet schemes.

Some of the weight loss diet schemes reign supreme briefly, only to fade out. While some wane from popularity due to being unproductive or unsafe, some simply lose the public’s curiosity. Examples of such fad diets include the South Beach Diet, Atkins diet, the Grapefruit diet, Cabbage Soup diet, the Rotation diet, Beverly Hills diet, Breatharian, Ornish Plan – the list goes on and on. These fad diets advocate a specific technique (such as eliminating a certain food, or eating only certain combinations of foods) in conjunction with the basic idea that the body makes up the difference in energy by breaking down and utilizing some part of itself, essentially converting matter into energy. This self-cannibalism, or catabolism as it is referred, typically starts with breakdown of stored body fat.

Home Gym Exercise

Most of us today are so busy with our work that we hardly get time to spend with family and can hardly find time to take care of our health. With the growing concern of obesity many of us today want to shed those extra pounds but are unable to do so because of the lack of time to go to the gym. In order to accommodate time for exercise people have resorted to home gym exercise equipment.

By setting up a few equipments at home, a small gym can be made available in all our houses where we can do home gym exercise. Gym equipments are easily available in the market. In fact equipment manufacturers have produced products to suit the need of consumers. Hence a wide range of products can be found and from which one can choose cardio and strength training machines of their choice to start their home gym exercise at a very low cost.

Home gym exercise suits almost all of us today. It is cost effective and a huge time saver. Time can easily be saved which is spent traveling to gyms and waiting in long queues to use the machine. Obese people may not be comfortable in working out with thin and slim people at the gym. Such people can use home gym exercise to shed the extra pounds in the privacy of their homes. Most of us who do not get adequate time to spend with our family can now do so. Children also learn from their parents when they see them doing home gym exercise. This helps in inculcating the good habit of exercise in them from a very early stage. If all the children learn such qualities then the problem of obesity which is the root cause of so many diseases can be eradicated in the future.

It is important that home gym exercise be encouraged rather than the unhealthy techniques like diet pills which cause dangerous side effects.

What Are Brain Gym Exercises?

Does brain gym exercises bring a funny picture to mind, your brain at the gym doing some curls, sit-ups, perhaps jogging, or perhaps your brain has taken itself to the library to read some interesting material on…brains, or maybe your brain is saying that it needs to exercise some sleep?

Well, actually all of those activities and more are required in your brain gym to effectively exercise your brain.

If you have been following the emerging information on brain fitness, you will have seen reference to the pillars of brain fitness, and how to take care of them for maximized neurogenesis and neuroplasticity, two recently discovered capacities of the the human brain.

Neurogenesis means that we grow new brain cells daily, and if they are encouraged to survive, most writers are saying they migrate to the hippocampal area of the brain, an area very important to human memory.

Neuroplasticity is the term used to describe how neurons form new connections, sometimes within minutes, when exposed to a novel learning experience.

Our brain will be larger and more successful at guiding us through the decisions we need to make every day if our brain gym exercises maximize our neurogenesis and neuroplasticity.

If you are curious about the concept of brain fitness and want an excellent over view of brain fitness then I suggest that you read Brainfit for Life by Simon Evans,Ph.D. and Paul Burghardt,Ph.D., who are neuroscientists at the University of Michigan.

Evans and Burghardt have culled the neuroscientific research for tools, concepts, and ideas that we can use in our brain gym.

The pillars of brain fitness are physical exercise, nutrition, including lots of antioxidants and omega 3 fatty acid, stress management, good and regular sleep, and novel learning experiences.

It I am building attention to those issues into my life, then I am going to maximize neurogenesis and neuroplasticity in my brain.

What Do Evans and Burghardt Have to Say About the Physical Exercise Pillar?

The most important brain fitness pillar turns out to be physical activity/exercise, according to Evans and Burghardt and your brain fitness gym exercises must be of the deep breathing kind.

Fortunately, you do not have to undertake an Olympic kind of training regimen to max out your neurogenesis and neuroplasticity, nor do you have to buy an expensive club membership or hire a trainer.

You can get a very excellent workout at home using tools no more sophisticated than an exercise ball and/or dumb bells, and lasting no more than ten minutes following the HIIT or high intensity interval training protocol.

For me, what that means is that I do 30 second intervals of calesthenics like the ones I did in grade school for ten minutes, and believe me, you will be winded.

The Next Most Important Brain Gym Exercise?

How about a computerized brain fitness program, like the one that Evans and Burghardt discuss in their book?

Most of the brain gym exercises writers say that the kind of novel learning experience we need to do for our neurogenesis and neuroplasticity is the kind experienced in learning a new language or a new instrument, because of the increasing level of complexity and the opportunity for successful feedback from practice, which means you get the right answer about 80% of the time.

Not sure about you, but even with retirement looming in my life, I do not have time to learn a new language or new instrument, so I am going to take a look at tools like the dual n back task, that I can do on my computer at home, in about 1/2 hour over the course of 19 days, with maintenance sessions as required.

And it appears the dual n back task has an interesting side effect, increased IQ.

It you try the dual n back task, you will at first be frustrated, then you will catch on, and as you improve your score, you will find yourself working out with this brain gym exercise very frequently because it really works.

And there are some other computerized brain fitness programs you can include in your brain gym exercise routine. For a research picture of one such tool, please read the IMPACT study.

Brain gym exercises can be done effectively in brief, frequent intervals. So you have done your physical exercise for the day, and practiced your novel learning experience, perhaps taken a nap, filled your stomach with good food, and good food of the non-processed, non-high fructose corn syrup kind, which means as grown for the most part, and now you are ready to learn an effective stress management program, one that you can do fast and effectively because you are now aware that unnecessary stress hormones kill those new neurons before they can go to work for you.

You know now that stress is a physiological process that it is normal for the human animal to have when it perceives that it is in danger, not when the January natural gas bill is larger than expected.

In the latter circumstance, a moments surprise should give way to your heart rate variability biofeedback practice to ensure that you have a maximum number of neurons available to solve the problem.

You know now that relaxation is actually the key to opening your higher perceptual centers, so you do your heart rate variability cue thought and breathing pattern and within a heartbeat your body returns to a balance internally which ensures continued neurogenesis and neuroplasticity and excellent problem solving.

There you have it, all the brain gym exercises you will ever need to do for your brain fitness workout.

Choosing Healthy Diet Food Consistantly

The number one key factor in the success of a new diet is whether or not you can keep the diet consistent. You may find plenty of diets that help you lose weight, but you are going to fail 100% of the time that you cannot sustain your diet. Your success really depends on your ability to sustain your diet – potentially for the rest of your life. If you don’t think that you can possibly continue your diet for many many years without any breaks, it is probably not the right diet for you. It is best to do some searching and find something that you can sustain.

There are plenty of diets out there, from low carb to raw food. All are supposed to help you lose pounds and keep them off. Regardless of what your specific diet is, the basic premise of weight loss is that you are spending more energy than you are taking in. You should be getting daily exercise in conjunction with choosing healthy meals and cutting out any empty calories (such as soda, cookies, chips, etc.). Weight will slowly start to come off if you adjust your eating and exercise habits. Eventually, you will get down to the weight that you want to be, and as long as you keep your diet and exercise routines going, you will stay at a healthy weight for a long time to come.

The one problem that most people encounter is trying to find healthy diet food that they can continue to eat for sustained periods of time. Many people find one or two different healthy meals that they enjoy, but have difficult creating any sort of variety. They consistently eat the same few health food options, but eventually they get sick of eating the same things over and over again. A good idea is to have an assortment of healthy diet food options so that you will get some variety in your diet and be able to continue your diet for much longer than you had imagined.

If you are trying to find a variety of healthy diet food, you have a few options that may help you find what you are looking for:

One idea is to cook everything yourself. The problem with this is that it takes a lot of time to cook yourself a meal every time you want to eat. Also, having all the ingredients might not be easy or economical (products going bad before you finish them). If you do want to cook, you can do what my dad does: batch. Go ahead and cook yourself an entire week’s worth of meals in one day. Put them in some containers, freeze everything and then heat and serve when you want to eat.

Another option is to go to the grocery store and start picking healthy pre-packaged diet meals. There should be a ton of options in your frozen food section. The only problem is that it can be expensive, you really have no idea what you are getting, and you don’t even know where to begin.

Finally, my favorite option is to order all your diet food online and have it delivered to your front door. You can do this for relatively inexpensive, and they will send you literally everything that you need to eat for that month. Just heat and serve when you need to eat. This service takes all the guess work out of picking your healthy diet food.

Always keep in mind that sustainability is the key to success for any diet. Find something that works for your taste buds, schedule and wallet.

Atkins Diet Foods For You

Atkins diet is easy to find and available worldwide. There are many varieties to choose, pick up packages if the diet low carbohydrate foods or make your own meals. Whatever you want to do the Atkins plan, there is a solution here for you. Youll need to keep the Atkins food pyramid in mind when the food choices. Atkins pyramid seems very different from the USDA Food Guide Pyramid. The base of the pyramid consists of protein sources such as eggs, fish, meat, chicken and tofu. On a daily basis, your diet should consist primarily of these foods. The second level has low blood sugar, such as salad greens, broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus and spinach. The third level consists of berries and avocado. The fruit must be used on an occasional basis after the initial phase of the Atkins diet. And vegetable seed oils, cheese, dairy products, nuts and legumes are used sparingly and in portions. The whole grain foods should be used sparingly and do not constitute the essence of the Atkins diet. The induction phase is the most restrictive, but lasted only two weeks. You must succeed in their diet to stay on the list of acceptable foods. One of the best ways to do this is to follow the Atkins menu plans that are printed in the New Diet Revolution book. Based on the food of their own is the best way to stay in the plan. Another good resource for monitoring the appropriate Atkins foods is a diet program. There are several available. Some are free and some have a small monthly fee. These programs require a registration and then provide them with personal weekly menu plans based on your needs and your level of grams of carbohydrates.
Brain Gym Exercises – Can They Really Increase My Brainpower?

Brain Gym® is a national organization that brings together folks that are interested in improving their brain function for multi-day retreats in states across the country. During a retreat, participants benefit from mind and body stimulation that can improve memory, stimulate thinking, reduce stress, and lead to a more balanced way of thinking.

Curios about the brain exercises? Brain Gym® focuses on improving creativity and brain function through movement and balance. There are 26 easy activities that integrate the body and mind included in the program. These activities are said to lead to dramatic improvements in concentration, memory, reading, writing, organizing, listening, and physical coordination.

Participants in Brain Gym® programs learn about movements such as fluid Edu-K movements based on the circle, spiral and Lazy 8. This is not a new research technique or trendy solution to solving common memory problems. In fact, the organization began in the 1970′s by educators Dr. Paul Dennison and Gail E. Dennison, who were looking for effective ways to improve performance in individuals who were considered to be learning disabled. Through their research, the Dennisons developed a brand new approach to education called Educational Kinesiology (Edu-K), which they refer to as “learning through movement.”

This educational technique is used in more than 80 countries and is taught in all types of schools to all types of students. One of the major benefits of the Brain Gym® organization is that they are highly focused on research, particularly when it comes to how movement impacts the brain.

The organization publishes papers by researchers, such as The Effect of PACE on Self-Reported Anxiety and Performance in First-Year Nursing Students. In this paper, by Jan Irving, Ph.D., the students that used PACE principals experienced an almost 70% reduction in their stress levels and increase their performance on tests by almost 20%.

In order to learn more about Brain Gym® exercises and how to do them, it is important to enroll in a class or private session, which can be found in locations across the country. Participants can enroll in courses such as Dennison Whole Brain Learning, or the Physiological Basis of Edu-K, which are designed to help participants learn to integrate their senses and connect them with movement, which can lead to optimal brain development.

Brain Gym® may be used primarily as a tool for educators with their students, but all individuals are welcome to enroll in retreats, courses, and private workshops. Through participation in the activities, you should learn how to improve your vision and use movement to increase your creativity and memory.

Check them out – they’re worth a shot if they can increase your brain’s capacity for the long term.

Fitness Training

Fitness training is essential not only for those who want to keep fit, but also for those who want to stay healthy. You can take fitness classes at a fitness centre or go to a health club to achieve health and fitness with group fitness training lessons.

Attending fitness health clubs is better than training alone because it gives you better motivation. When you have to take yourself off for a walk you will be tempted to make any number of excuses not to go. You will be busy, or it will be too hot or cold – anything at all if you don’t enjoy exercising much.

But once you’ve paid you membership at a fitness club you are much more likely to go. For a start, you won’t want to waste that money you paid out, but in addition to that there will be personal fitness trainers available to make up a personal fitness plan for you. Your personal trainer will become your friend and you will look forward to seeing them each week. Additionally, you will be sure to make plenty of other friends who are also undertaking personal fitness training.

Personal training such as is offered by a fitness club will ensure that you do not injure yourself by training inappropriately for your present health and fitness levels. Your unique fitness regime will gradually lead you along the road to fitness and it won’t be long before that cholesterol and high blood pressure will have both gone down, not to mention your weight.

And as your body gets fitter you will find that you can once again enjoy the many activities that you loved to do when you were younger and fitter. You may decide to go dancing, take long walks along the beach or take up a sport because you feel so fit and energetic. Life can only get better when your fitness levels improve.

Fitness expert is a professional fitness trainer, and has been training many people with their health programs to get them in shape. He has been a trainer for the last 12 years.
